Foundations of Positive Guidance II: Understanding Child Development
Responding to your child’s behavior in a positive way is essential for their emotional well-being. This course explores positive guidance, theories that support it, and why it’s important to use positive guidance with your preschool/school-age child.
In this course, you will discover:
- The goals of positive guidance
- The stage of Erikson’s theory psychosocial development that occurs during the preschool years
- The developmental characteristics of preschoolers and school-age children
This course will focus on the developmental characteristics of children between three and twelve years of age. The goal is to better understand how children develop in order to effectively utilize positive guidance strategies. For the purposes of this course, preschoolers are children between the ages of three and five. For children older than five, we will use the term school-age.
